O2Micro Granted Continuation for LCD Panel Power Supply Invention

GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman, Aug. 16, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- O2Micro(r) International Limited (Nasdaq:OIIM) (SEHK:0457), a leading supplier of innovative power management and security components and systems, was granted 34 claims under United States patent number 7,075,245 for its Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) Panel Power Supply Architecture; a continuation of the invention issued August 2005 under United States patent number 6,936,975.

The patented backlight power supply architecture provides a low cost power supply solution for a multiple Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL) driving topology used in large-size LCD TV applications. It is adapted for applications requiring long or U-shape lamps, and can be adapted to convert a high voltage DC (Direct Current) signal to a high voltage AC (Alternating Current) signal for off-line applications.

Dr. Yung Lin, executive vice president, O2Micro, commented, "This invention enables the LCD TV supply chain to reduce the cost of the backlight inverter power supply module."
