WHY: Starting January 8, 2007, Americans traveling to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, South America, Central America and the Caribbean countries will need a passport. WHAT: To help make it easier for travelers, AAA Texas will offer free passport photos in all of its 25 district offices on Wednesday, November 1st from 9 AM to 6 PM. Passport applications are also available in the district offices. "With the deadline weeks away, we have seen more travelers coming into our district offices seeking assistance with passport photos, travelers' cheques, International Driving Permits, and help with their travel arrangements," said Mark Bell, general manager of AAA Texas. "We encourage them to take advantage of this opportunity to save money if applying for a passport." Under the new requirements, airline passengers from the U.S. and Canada traveling to countries in the Western Hemisphere will be required to present a valid passport for entry and re-entry in the U.S. According to the U.S. State Department, less than 27 percent of Americans have a valid passport. This could mean real delays if travelers wait until the end of the year to get a passport for their 2007 travels, said AAA. Note: Each customer is limited to one set of passport photos.
