7 Out of 10 Newlyweds' Bedrooms Has a Snorer

Breathe Right® Brand Vows to Help Couples "Love, Honor... and Sleep"

MINNEAPOLIS, MN -- October 18, 2006 -- For better or worse, for richer or poorer, in restful nights and...snoring? For almost seven out of 10 newlywed couples (67 percent), one or the other partner snores, according to a recent national survey of newlyweds*. Forty-three percent of snorers and 42 percent of the bed partners of snorers said that snoring adds stress to their relationship.

More than half (54 percent) of the newlyweds with a snoring partner surveyed, attribute their sleepless nights to snoring. In fact, when asked to identify what keeps them up at night, the only thing more likely than snoring to cause sleep loss is stress (57 percent). They lose sleep to snoring more than work and family issues combined.

And, snoring not only takes the bliss out of the bedroom. A poor nights sleep "significantly" affects how six out of 10 (59 percent) of the respondents function the next day, according to the survey.

Many newlyweds (40 percent) consider snoring a fact of life and have not taken any measures to manage the problem. Among those who try to do something about the problem, nudging, prodding or yelling (29 percent) is the most common tactic. Only one in 10 wakes up the snorer and seven percent of newlyweds leave their beds and sleep in another room.

How Snoring Works

Snoring is a breathing problem. When you're awake, air flows freely through breathing passages. But at night:

-- Nasal passages become restricted, and
--  Throat muscles relax

These factors make it harder for air to pass through. These two problems cause snoring.

Snoring Solutions

Breathe Right products, the number-one pharmacist-recommended brand for snoring problems, can address both sources of snoring. Try either Breathe Right nasal strips or Breathe Right Snore Relief throat spray or new Snore Relief throat rinse, or use a combination of strips and spray or rinse to get maximum results.

Breathe Right products can help 85 percent of snorers get relief.

-- NEW Breathe Right Snore Relief throat rinse, the newest addition to
    the product line-up, is clinically proven to reduce the loudness and
    frequency of snoring. Snore Relief throat rinse lubricates throat tissues
    to minimize vibrations and control the snoring sound.
-- Breathe Right Snore Relief throat spray lubricates throat tissues with
    a blend of natural oils and is clinically proven to reduce the loudness and
    frequency of snoring.
-- Drug free Breathe Right nasal strips use flexible "spring-like" bands
    to gently lift open nasal passages so you can breathe through your nose and
    close your mouth.

Look for Breathe Right products in the cough/cold aisle of local mass, drug, club and grocery retailers.

Additional Survey Highlights

-- 39 percent of respondents have partners that snore, while 28 percent
    of newlyweds admit to being snorers themselves;
-- 32 percent said they thought the elimination of snoring would somewhat
    improve their relationship, while 9 percent said it would improve their
    relationship quite a bit;
-- And, many newlyweds try to create a blissful bedroom by saying, "I
    love you" every night (67 percent) and making sure they never go to bed
    angry (42 percent).

Only 4 percent said that separate beds are good for their relationship, which could spell trouble down the road for all those partners who have problems sleeping next to their snoring spouses.
