Geographic Custom Search Engine Announced by Google Launch Partner

CityTownInfo.com Rolls Out First Local Government Custom Search Engine (CSE), for Distribution to Third Party Sites

MARLBOROUGH, Mass., Oct. 24, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- CityTownInfo.com has released a Google Custom Search Engine (CSE) that provides enhanced search for people looking for information from state and local government sites across the U.S. In addition to offering the CSE on its own web site, CityTownInfo.com is making its CSE available to third party publishers for publication on their web sites, at no cost or obligation.

Google's Custom Search Engines take advantage of expert editorial guidance to produce superior search results. CityTownInfo's CSE incorporates the knowledge of human editors related to thousands of geographic reference web sites. This specialized expertise, combined with Google's algorithms and vast database of web sites, yields improved search results related to U.S. geographies, including demographics, maps, housing, employment, news, neighborhoods, landmarks, climate, and almanac and other data.

Eric Enge, VP of Marketing for Moving Traffic, the publisher of CityTownInfo.com, noted that, "The Google Custom Search Engine announcement is a dramatic step in the direction of distributed search. The web has seen the rise of community-based wisdom, with sites such as dmoz.org, digg.com, reddit.com, wikipedia.org, and many others. But CSEs allow people to apply their expertise in a variety of specialized areas to improve mainstream search results. This allows a far greater number of web site operators to offer their expertise, and broadens the availability of community and expert knowledge dramatically. As a result, for many searches, the best search quality may be found on sites other than Google's (using the Google CSE)."

Citytowninfo.com will be soliciting and incorporating suggestions on web resources to include in its CSE. Interested parties may suggest their own sites for inclusion, for example. Suggestions can be sent to coop@citytowninfo.com.
