Union Overwhelmingly Ratifies Agreement

OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 28, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Waste Management of Alameda County and the Warehousemen's Union Local 6 representing 100 landfill workers at three East Bay disposal locations have announced today that an agreement has been reached.

Waste Management (NYSE:WMI) is pleased that Local 6 accepted our contract offer, which is fair to everyone and leads the region and the industry. We made a comprehensive offer to the Union that addresses the interests of the employees while preserving the company's ability to operate in a highly competitive business environment.

The five-year agreement includes employee contributions to the cost of health and welfare benefits. This was a significant issue for the Company during bargaining, as it furthers the Company's efforts in providing superior healthcare coverage to its employees while controlling spiraling healthcare costs.
