3rd Certification Wave From Multimedia Over Coax Alliance (MoCA) Nets 17 Certified Product Interfaces

DALLAS, Nov. 6, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) TelcoTV -- The Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA-TM) recently certified its seventeenth product interface. MoCA certified products now include a complete digital entertainment home networking ecosystem for triple play. This MoCA ecosystem incorporates DVR set-top boxes, client set top boxes, Ethernet to coax bridges, Optical Network Terminals (ONT), and broadband home routers (BHR). Hitachi (NYSE:HIT), Motorola (NYSE:MOT), and Actiontec participated in this certification wave and certified DVR Set Top Boxes, gigabit Optical Network Terminals and BHRs respectively.

Hitachi's AMN1220 GST is the first GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) ONT is now MoCA certified. The Hitachi AMN1220 GST, located at an individual residence, connects the residence to the ultra-fast gigabit passive optical network, which operates at 2.4Gbps downstream and 1.2Gbps upstream. Within the residence, the GST delivers video and data services over coaxial cable to MoCA-enabled communication and entertainment devices. Voice is typically provided using the Hitachi GST's POTS interfaces. Motorola, Inc.'s QIP6416 supports IP delivery of video to a single TV or networked whole home services through an IP network in addition to providing all the feature sets and capabilities of Motorola digital cable set-tops. Actiontec's ECB1500 MoCA adapter offers fast and reliable IPTV and Internet access.

MoCA technology, embedded in these products enables triple-play content, including well over net 100Mbps of multiple HDTV and SDTV programs, high-speed data, gaming, voice and any other services over IP (internet protocol), through the existing in-home coaxial wiring.

"To date, MoCA is the only triple play standards organization that has a fully compliant certification program. This can be attributed to our member companies and their dedicated hard work. After just two years, MoCA's certification process allows for multiple types of interfaces and products to be MoCA certified," said Ladd Wardani, President of MoCA.

This certification wave was an official MoCA event where vendors and MoCA members submitted products with MoCA interfaces to verify interoperability, functionality and performance based on a suite of certification tests chosen by the MoCA Certification Board. Representatives of the Certification Board monitored all testing. Successful products were awarded MoCA certification, which allowed a vendor to use the MoCA logo and claim compliance to the MoCA MAC/PHY v1.0 ratified standard. In Q1 of 2007, companies will be able to run through the certification tests at MoCA qualified 3rd party labs, with the MoCA Certification Board then reviewing results and awarding certification.
