VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Nov. 16, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Gold Canyon Resources Inc. (TSX-V:GCU) ("Gold Canyon" or "the Company") is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Garry Smith, P.Geo, of Woodlawn, Ontario, as its Vice President of Exploration, effective November 16, 2006. Mr. Bojan Zabev will remain as an officer of Gold Canyon and will continue to devote his effort as a senior consulting geologist to the Company.
Mr. Garry K. Smith, P.Geo, is a senior exploration geologist with over 25 years of experience throughout the Americas and Australia. His well-rounded management skills will help lead our Gold Canyon team through the next phases of growth. He will be responsible for advancing our Springpole Gold Project, Cordero Gallium Project and Bear Head Uranium Project, as well as researching and evaluating new opportunities that will meet the ever increasing market need for minerals.
Upon being appointed Vice President, Exploration of Gold Canyon, Mr. Smith stated, "It is an exciting time for the industry and we have plans to add significantly to that excitement."
Mr. Smith has been of great assistance to the Company since joining us over a year ago, and we look forward to working closely with him in this new capacity to continue building our portfolio of developing projects and increasing shareholder value.
