Eastern University to Host Nonprofit Lecture With Liz Scott of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation


ST. DAVIDS, Pa., March 16, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Eastern University is hosting the 2007 Nonprofit Lecture and Award Ceremony on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. in McInnis Auditorium at the St. Davids campus (www.eastern.edu/excellence ).

Liz Scott, Vice President of Development for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, will be speaking (www.alexslemonade.org/ ). Mrs. Scott is responsible for initiating and maintaining contact with sponsors, overseeing donor acknowledgment and cultivation, facilitating and attending numerous fundraising events for the foundation, speaking to organizations, children's groups, and students of all ages, building a strong network of volunteers and supporters through frequent communication, and granting interviews to national and local media to help advance the work of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.

The SEI Investments Award for Nonprofit Excellence will be presented during the nonprofit lecture that evening. The Excellence Award is given each year to a nonprofit organization in the mid-Atlantic region that displays excellence in program innovation, strong leadership, evidence of measurable impacts upon the community, and strong financial management.

The Excellence Award criteria is based on the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organization Standards for Excellence (www.pano.org ) which conducts the national program that includes education and a voluntary certification process for an organizations to be awarded a "Seal of Excellence." The Standards for Excellence include eight guiding principles and 56 standards indicating best practices for the nonprofit sector.

Liz has received many awards including the 2006 Ann Silverman Award presented by Gilda's Club Delaware Valley, 2005 Humanitarian Award from The Alumni Association of The University of Connecticut, 2005 76ers Hometown Hero Award, 2005 Philadelphia Sports Writers Association Humanitarian Award, 2005 Best Philadelphians Award, 2005 "Bill Fisher Award" for Best First Book (Children's/Young Adult), 2005 "Mom's Choice Award" (Children's book). She has accepted awards recognizing Alex and the work of the foundation including: 2006 Please Touch Museum Great Friend to Kids Award, 2006 Sunshine Foundation Founder's Award, 2005 Philadelphia Public Relations Association "Gold Medal Award", 2005 Philadelphia Sports Congress Humanitarian Award, 2005 Ben Appelbaum Advocate for Youth Award, and 2004 Youth in Philanthropy Award presented by the Association for Fundraising Professionals.

In addition, Liz and Jay Scott were recently announced as winners of the Philadelphia Business Journal's 40 Under 40 Awards Program.
