Emulex Surpasses 25 Millionth Embedded Storage Port Shipment Milestone

Significant Achievement Demonstrates Company's Expertise in Embedded Storage Solutions

COSTA MESA, Calif., March 22, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) today announced that it has surpassed its 25 millionth cumulative embedded storage port shipment. This significant milestone follows a highly successful year for Emulex's embedded storage products portfolio, comprised of industry-leading I/O controllers, InSpeed(r) and FibreSpy(r) embedded storage switches, and multi-protocol bridging technology.

"Emulex doubled its InSpeed embedded storage switch port shipments in just over a year, and combined with embedded bridges and I/O controllers, we have surpassed a significant milestone with more than 25 million embedded ports shipped," said Bob Whitson, senior vice president and general manager of Embedded Storage Products, Emulex Corp. "This accomplishment reflects the success of our strategy to provide unmatched end-to-end embedded solutions for our industry-leading storage OEM customers."

The Emulex embedded storage products portfolio has experienced solid growth; last quarter, it represented 25 percent of Emulex's total revenue, with all of the top 10 storage OEMs leveraging its offerings. In 2006, more than 80 percent of all FC and SATA disk drives deployed into external storage in 2006 were connected by Emulex embedded products. Emulex provides a complete end-to-end solution portfolio of market-leading embedded storage products including:

   -- I/O Controllers - Emulex offers a full line of I/O
controllers that support all three serial storage
protocols, including Fibre Channel, SAS and SATA. The
Emulex I/O Controllers are designed for storage system
providers that want to build flexibility into the external
       storage systems.
-- Embedded Switches - Emulex invented embedded storage
point-to-point switching and leads this market with its
InSpeed and FibreSpy products. Emulex's switching expertise
spans the entry through enterprise storage markets and
provides the only switches that have deployed an embedded
switched fabric supporting greater than 2,700 hard disk
drives in a single embedded switched back-end.
   -- Multi-Protocol Bridges - Emulex's protocol bridging
technology offers a versatile solution for tiered storage
through enabling SATA disk drive connectivity in
field-proven FC-based storage systems and represents
the highest volume shipping solution for SATA attachment
today. Additionally, Emulex drove the formation of
FC-SATA, a FC industry standard used to natively attach
SATA hard disk drives into FC back-ends.

"Emulex's recent milestone further establishes the company as a leading expert in embedded storage applications," said Dave Reinsel, Program Director, Storage Research, IDC. "Its broad portfolio of solutions makes Emulex a key player in the storage industry. Solutions such as Emulex's enable more reliable, scalable, cost-effective, and higher performing storage systems than would otherwise be possible."
