Marygrove College Dance Company Performs 'No Street Shoes' April 13-15


DETROIT, April 3, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- The Marygrove College Dance Company will perform its annual concert Friday, April 13, through Sunday, April 15, at the Marygrove Theatre. Titled "No Street Shoes," the concert will feature several renowned guest choreographers whose work showcases a diverse, living world of urban movement.

"No Street Shoes" will be performed April 13 at 8 p.m., April 14 at 2 and 8 p.m., and April 15 at 4 p.m. The Theatre is located in the Liberal Arts Building on the Marygrove Campus, 8425 W. McNichols, Detroit, MI 48221. The concert is free and open to the public.

Working with the student dancers are choreographers:



 -- Sidra Bell, artistic director of Sidra Bell Dance New York: has
    performed, taught and toured with nathantrice/RITUALS, Avodah Dance
    Ensemble and MIMEX Dance.
 -- Tracy Halloran, senior choreographer: at 19, won the coveted "Miss
    Dance" title for Michigan.  Tracy was selected Outstanding Dance
    Student this year and will be graduating in May with a BFA in Dance
    Performance.
 -- Jordeen Ivanov-Ericson, Dance Department Chair: began her ballet
    training in the Vaganova methodology in Pittsburgh with Nicolas
    Petrov.  A principal dancer in several ballet companies, she is
    currently a Master Teacher and chair of the Marygrove College dance
    department.
 -- Penny Godboldo, associate professor: is the only certified
    instructor of the Dunham technique in Michigan.  She has taught,
    performed and conducted her research, "Dance in Religion," in many
    countries over 20 years during which she has been on the Marygrove
    faculty.
 -- Susan Panek, faculty member: has several dance teaching credits,
    has appeared in concert with DanceNonce, Dance Detroit and Writhm
    Dance Company, and serves as the DSO's ballet mistress, children's
    Rehearsal Director and Executive Managing Director.
 -- Gregory Robinson, guest choreographer: is the Associate Director of
    the Dayton Ballet Company as well as its former principal
    dancer/ballet master.  As a Master Artist, he teaches yearly
    workshops at Marygrove's Summer School for the Performing
    Arts/Festival of Dance.
 -- Barbara Selinger, adjunct faculty member: is artistic director of
    Detroit Dance Collective (DDC), which she co-founded in 1980.  She
    has created more than sixty major works for DDC and other dance
    companies and has received six Creative Artist Grants.
