Hyperic Launches HyperFORGE to Extend Open Plug-In Community
9 New Plug-Ins Donated to Open Source HyperFORGE Targeted at Systems Management of High Volume On-Line Services
| Source: Hyperic Inc.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - June 18, 2007) - Hyperic Inc., the leader in
multi-platform, open source systems management, today announced the
HyperFORGE (http://www.hyperic.com/hyperforge), Hyperic's open source
software development site, which will provide developers with an easy way
to create plug-ins to Hyperic HQ, the company's flagship systems management
platform.
Most Hyperic HQ open source users are deploying next-generation, high
demand on-line applications built on modern SOA architectures. These
on-line, services-based deployments require the ability to monitor and
manage across all layers of the stack to establish a composite view of
their heterogeneous environments.
Hyperic HQ currently ships with the industry's broadest footprint of
technologies managed today. However, recognizing that the technology needs
of online services businesses change rapidly, the HyperFORGE provides a way
for this community to work together to quickly add support for their
changing technology adoption.
As part of the launch, Hyperic is announcing nine new plug-ins to its
portfolio, which brings the total number of managed technologies to 55,
five times more than any other open source systems management provider. The
new plug-ins available through the forge include: IBM Informix; Squid;
lighttpd; qmail; JOnAS; CruiseControl; NetScaler; ZXTM; WxGoos.
"Hyperic's mission is to provide the only open source systems management
software purpose-built for the fast-moving online services market," said
Doug MacEachern, CTO and co-founder of Hyperic. "The online market has
different and changing needs. Technology is its product, and evolving and
embracing new technologies is driving web sites and new SOA
infrastructures. Having an open forge allows the community to respond
quickly to changing requirements. And through community contributions, we
can provide users with more than 90 percent coverage of their technology
needs. Most other vendors leave 90 percent uncovered, and that's just
unacceptable."
Companies implementing traditional systems management tools typically spend
weeks or months customizing scripts to collect monitoring data and
connecting their management system to the desired technologies. For
fast-moving, online services businesses that demand high availability,
these types of traditional deployments can pose serious risks, opening
"management gaps" in their framework, and creating extensive deployment
costs. Through Hyperic HQ, this demanding market now has access to an
innovative systems management alternative that provides the most
comprehensive and cost-effective management and networking software
out-of-the-box.
Designed to encourage the community to collaborate, Hyperic's new
HyperFORGE includes an easy-to-use Plug-in Development Kit (PDK) that
streamlines the process of writing management protocols to a few simple
lines of XML. More detailed plug-ins can be written in C++, Java, or perl.
The site is organized as a library where users can contribute "HOWTO"
guides, as well as plug-ins. For complete information on all
Hyperic-supported technologies, visit

Announcing the "Plug-in of the Month" Program
Hyperic is encouraging contributions and is kicking off its "Plug-in of the
Month" program, which will review all plug-ins on a monthly basis and award
the most valuable plug-in with a write-up in the monthly community
newsletter as well as the Hyperic blog. All contributors of a reusable
plug-in will receive a Hyperic company logo golf shirt. Winners of the
monthly contest will also receive a $250 American Express gift certificate
for contributions. For more information on this program, visit
