ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., July 26, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Mondo's Mondoturf with Ecofill has been chosen to be the new artificial turf for Highland High School in Albuquerque, N.M. Mondoturf with Ecofill will replace the current natural grass field at the school, transforming it into a first-class competitive playing surface. Installation has begun and is expected to be completed by the end of September.
Highland's soccer and football programs will use the field, so officials wanted a synthetic turf that had the same performance qualities as natural grass, but that would not get hot like reground-tire fields.
"It was important to have a field that would have a realistic ball bounce unlike other synthetic fields," said APS Executive Director of Facilities and Operations Brad Winter. "This field will eliminate accidents and injuries that occur due to overuse of grass that can be seen by the end of each season."
The district also will save money on maintenance on the field including irrigation, weed control and other necessary repairs. The total estimated savings is $16,000 per year.
The Mondoturf with Ecofill field at Highland High School will not be the first Mondo system installed in the area. Mondo's multi-purpose sports flooring systems are installed in a number of the school district's middle school gymnasiums and city community centers.
