Sailors, Navy Personnel and Families Have Global Access to Best-Selling Audiobooks, Music & Video
| Source: OverDrive, Inc.
CLEVELAND, OH--(Marketwire - August 6, 2007) - Sailors, Marines, and Coasties can now
download feature films, TV shows, documentaries and other movie titles as a
result of the Navy General Library Program expanding its online digital
media library. Less then two years after becoming the first U.S. military
service to offer downloadable audio books and music to all of its
personnel, the Navy is expanding their digital library, with downloadable
video, signaling their innovativeness again as the first military service
to do so.
This service is available through Navy Knowledge Online. The Navy's digital
library collection can be viewed at http://navy.lib.overdrive.com, but
registered users must checkout and download audiobooks and video though
https://wwwa.nko.navy.mil.
Since launching the service, users have downloaded tens of thousands of
titles through the Navy General Library Program Downloadable Books, Music,
& Video for listening and viewing on PCs and transfer to supported MP3
players and devices. Sailors and their families can check out and download
titles anytime, anywhere using the platform and technology provided by
OverDrive, a leading provider of digital media services. At the end of the
10 day lending period, the titles automatically expire and are returned to
the Navy's collection, so there are no late fees or lost or damaged items.
"This service has been a tremendous value to the Navy personnel serving our
country," stated Nellie Moffitt, Navy General Library Program Manager. "We
are reaching sailors and their families around the world and providing them
24/7 access to an extensive collection of popular audio books, music, and
now download video."
Users can download audio books in virtually every subject, from
best-selling authors like James Patterson and Michael Connelly, the world's
#1 best-seller "Da Vinci Code," and language learning guides in more than
25 languages. In addition to 7,000 audio and music titles, the Navy now
offers access to a diverse collection of more than 500 videos. Videos
include IMAX movies like "The Living Sea" narrated by award-winning actors,
HBO comedy specials, popular concert films from stars like Cher and James
Brown, documentaries, film classics such as "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea"
and "8 1/2," and children's titles. All videos and select audio books are
"always available," which means there is never a waiting list for popular
titles.
