Marygrove College Men's Basketball Adds Three to 2007 Class

DETROIT, Aug. 7, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Marygrove College has signed three local athletes to join the Mustang men's basketball program this fall. Committing to the Mustangs are Rob McCarty from Lincoln High School in Warren, MI, Shane Averitt from Armada High School, Armada, MI, and Robert Jones from John Glenn High School in Westland, MI.

McCarty, a 6' 2" guard, helped lead Lincoln to a 17-5 record his senior year. The sharp-shooting McCarty will play the 2-guard spot with the Mustangs.

Averitt, a 6' 1" combo guard, is coming off a strong senior season. Averitt finished second in assists, third in three-point shooting, and fourth in scoring in the Blue Water Conference in 2006-07.

Jones, a 6' 4" forward, averaged 12 points a game his senior year at Glenn. Jones was also the vocal and emotional leader for the Rockets, a team that finished 12-1 in the Western Lakes Conference last year.

"It's a pleasure to have these three young men join our basketball program. Rob, Shane and Robert are all excellent talents on the court and in the classroom. We are looking forward to getting them started in our program and contributing to the success of the team," said Dave Sichterman, Marygrove's Athletic Director and Head Coach.
