ChamberPAC Supports Tom Saylor for Retention

HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 28, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- ChamberPAC, the political arm of the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, announced its endorsement of Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Tom Saylor and encourages Pennsylvanians to vote "yes" for Saylor on Nov. 6.

"ChamberPAC is pleased to recommend the continued service of Justice Saylor," said Gene Barr, PA Chamber vice president of government and public affairs. "He has served the court and Pennsylvania citizens with integrity over the past decade and is deserving of retention."

Barr noted that Saylor served as an assistant district attorney in Somerset County and as a deputy attorney general in the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office, becoming the First Deputy Attorney General. Following a period in private practice, Saylor was elected to the Pennsylvania Superior Court in 1993 and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in 1997.

On the Supreme Court, Saylor authored hundreds of opinions, including the decision to uphold Pennsylvania's Megan's Law, which protects children from sexual predators. He also aided the court's efforts to curtail frivolous lawsuits and lower the cost of medical malpractice in Pennsylvania.

"Decisions made at the state Supreme Court level can have a tremendous impact on the everyday lives of Pennsylvanians - as private residents, as employees and as members of the business community," Barr said. "The need to have well-qualified jurists on the bench, judges who understand the constitution and all the potential implications of their rulings cannot be underscored enough.

"Justice Saylor possesses these qualifications and that is why ChamberPAC encourages the support of his continued service on the state Supreme Court bench."

The Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry is the state's largest broad-based business association, serving more than 24,000 members and customers statewide. More information is available on the PA Chamber's website at www.pachamber.org.
