Greater Dallas Chamber Hosts Experts to Address DFW Businesses On FCPA Compliance November 6

DALLAS, Oct. 30, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- The Greater Dallas Chamber will host experts on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) who will address new trends in compliance and enforcement at a breakfast seminar on November 6. The seminar will be held at the Hotel Crescent Court located at 400 Crescent Court in Dallas from 8:30 AM to 11:45 AM.

The "Foreign Corrupt Practices Act: New Trends in Compliance and Enforcement" seminar will feature speakers from companies and government agencies that are directly involved in FCPA, such as the FBI Dallas Division, K&L Gates, ACS, Halliburton, Mary Kay and Trace International. "Breakout Sessions" will provide unique learning opportunities for FCPA enforcement and compliance information to be tailored to each attendee's level of expertise. Attendees will benefit by listening to the testimony of FCPA experts, including companies that have dealt with FCPA compliance issues in the past.

U.S. firms seeking to do business in foreign markets must be familiar with the FCPA. This 1977 law prohibits U.S. companies and their subsidiaries, as well as their officers, directors, employees and agents from bribing foreign officials and requires U.S. companies that issue debt or equity to maintain internal accounting controls and keep records that accurately reflect all transactions.

One company learned the importance of better understanding the complicated FCPA regulations in 2002 when the Securities and Exchange Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) instituted civil and criminal proceedings against Syncor International Corporation and its Taiwanese subsidiary, Syncor Taiwan, for FCPA infractions. Syncor is one of the many companies, large and small, that have learned the importance of understanding complicated FCPA regulations first-hand. Enforcement proceedings reflect the DOJ's efforts to ratchet up enforcement of FCPA.

The seminar is hosted by the Greater Dallas Chamber and is sponsored by ACS and K&L Gates. Admission is $50 for TBC/IBC members, $70 for Greater Dallas Chamber members and $90 for general admission.
