Recognizing Family Caregivers, America's Invisible Workforce: This November Online Eldercare Resource AGIS Honors 50 Million During National Caregiver Month
| Source: AGIS
SAN RAMON, CA--(Marketwire - November 7, 2007) - During the entire month of November, AGIS, a leader in technology-driven
resources for eldercare, is celebrating family members and friends who give
so much to care for a loved one with a chronic illness or disability in
honor of National Caregiver Month, an initiative led by the National Family
Caregivers Association.
Although most people would not identify themselves as family caregivers,
there are actually a staggering 44 million Americans caring for someone
over the age of 18 who are classified as such. These family caregivers
provide assistance with everyday tasks such as picking up groceries or
medication, helping with grooming and bathing, or assisting with money
management. In the initial stages, most people see themselves as helpers,
fulfilling a limited number of tasks, and then gradually turn into
caregivers. Other times, a sudden illness or accident turns them into a
family caregiver overnight, whether for a short period while their loved
one recuperates or for the long haul. Regardless of the situation, these
friends, family members, and partners become part of the invisible
workforce that provides 80% of all long-term care services in America.
In support of National Caregiver Month and in the spirit of preparedness,
AGIS announces the launch of their free Caregiver Kit available online at
www.agis.com/caregiverkit. Compiled by AGIS with input from the National
Family Caregivers Association, the package includes tips to help recognize
when a loved one might need extra assistance, a "Where to Begin" checklist,
care management techniques, and much more, giving families a starting point
for their caregiving needs.
"We would like to take this opportunity to recognize and thank the millions
of individuals who selflessly and regularly donate their valuable time and
resources," said Kevin Sypniewski, AGIS Founder & CEO. "In order to assist
America's family caregivers, AGIS wants to offer a comprehensive set of
resources as a solution for those whose needs are often overlooked or
forgotten."
AGIS provides extensive resources for
people with caregiving questions and concerns, whether an urgent need or in
preparation for the future. This unique web service combines eldercare
education with local support resources and a vibrant community to deliver
the best possible solutions for adult caregivers and their families.
