NorthWestern Energy Announces Approval of Rate Settlements by South Dakota and Nebraska Commissions

Montana Commission Approves Interim Rates


SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Dec. 21, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- NorthWestern Corporation d/b/a NorthWestern Energy (Nasdaq:NWEC) announced today that the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission and the Nebraska Public Service Commission have issued orders approving the rate case settlements in each of those jurisdictions, as filed. The new rates were effective as of Dec. 1, 2007 in both jurisdictions.

Also, the Montana Public Service Commission ("MPSC") approved the Company's motion for an interim rate increase request effective Jan. 1, 2008, in both the electric and natural gas utilities. The MPSC will conduct a hearing in February regarding the recently announced stipulated agreement between the company and the Montana Consumer Counsel to settle the pending electric and natural gas rate cases.
