PTA Votes: Parents Take Voice to Capitol Hill
Child Advocates Meet in Nation's Capitol to Sharpen Advocacy Skills, Visit Elected Officials, and Award Legislative Excellence
| Source: National PTA
WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - February 26, 2008) - As the presidential primaries continue to
heat up and everyone's vote becomes more and more important, parent leaders
from across the country are in Washington, DC, this week to ensure their
voices are heard and remind their elected officials that "PTA Votes."
"It's important that our government remembers that parents, as PTA members,
are very much involved in child advocacy, the election process, and are
registered voters. That's what makes PTA the premier parent involvement
and child advocacy organization it is today and has been for more than 110
years," said Jan Harp Domene, PTA national president.
Hundreds of child advocates are in the nation's capitol as part of PTA's
National Legislative Conference (February 26-28). The three-day event
joins leaders representing every state in the union to sharpen their
grassroots advocacy skills, conduct meetings with their elected
representatives, and honor a local and state PTA with the PTA Outstanding
Advocacy Award for their legislative efforts.
PTA will also present the PTA Congressional Voice for Children Award to two
of Congress' education champions: a U.S. Senator and Congressman. The
awards will be presented on Thursday afternoon at Capitol Hill in the
Senate Russell Caucus Room. (Media should RSVP with James Martinez at
773-339-4533.)
NOTE: PTA may have breaking news tomorrow (Wednesday, February 27) at the
conference about a unique partnership that will further PTA's involvement
in the presidential election process.
