WDAS 105.3 FM's Heritage Event Finds a New Home at Penn's Landing

PHILADELPHIA, May 21, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- The 30th Anniversary of WDAS FM's world famous event, Unity Day will become Unity Weekend on the Waterfront with a new location, on the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing. As part of an exciting new partnership between Clear Channel Radio and Penn's Landing Corporation, this event will expand into a weekend or two day celebration, on August 23 and 24, 2008, as part of the 2008 Summer Season calendar at Penn's Landing.

This keystone Philadelphia event celebrates family values, pride, and empowerment and is proudly produced by WDAS and sponsor Southwest Airlines. The Great Plaza at Penn's Landing will be filled with delicious food, vendors, children's activities, and free performances from 12 PM to 7 PM each day. WDAS's live broadcast from Unity Weekend on the Waterfront will feature Steve Harvey and Michael Baisden.

President and Market Manager for Clear Channel Philadelphia, Manuel Rodriguez explains, "As we mark the 30th WDAS Unity Day, we're excited about expanding the event to two days in partnership with Penn's Landing. The resources, facilities and accessibility of the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing make this the ideal location for celebrating Unity Weekend on the Waterfront and our three decades of serving our community."

The KID ZONE will feature fun for kids including Moon Bounces, Face painters, and Clowns with Balloon art, as well as performances on the McDonald's Stage. Unity Weekend on the Waterfront spectators will enjoy various themed pavilions on the Great Plaza, featuring product sampling, nutritional information, blood pressure screenings, and more.

The Seniors Pavilion will offer speakers discussing everything from retirement finances, personal safety and volunteerism, to health. Community Row hosts a wide variety of nonprofit organizations with information and resources benefiting the community.

WDAS's Unity Day was born in 1978 on Belmont Plateau. It has since become the nation's largest outdoor radio event. WDAS FM is a heritage station that has served the community for decades. Its rich history of social activism, combined with the finest R&B, and legendary personalities like Joe "Butterball" Tamburro, Patty Jackson, and Tony Brown, along with the Steve Harvey Morning Show and Michael Baisden, make WDAS FM one of Philadelphia's most beloved and listened to stations in the Delaware Valley.

"As a long time partner of Penn's Landing, we were excited to work together again with Clear Channel Radio and specifically WDAS FM 105.3 to continue this heritage event. When we heard they were looking for a new home to celebrate their 30th anniversary, Penn's Landing Corporation welcomed the opportunity to make this event part of our free summer season program," comments Joseph Brooks, Acting President of the Penn's Landing Corporation.
