HOLLYWOOD, CA--(Marketwire - May 27, 2008) - Hold On Tight... Unabashedly beginning May
30th Point Break LIVE! the ultra-lively theatrical spectacular based on the
action film fave by the same name (starring Keanu Reeves & Patrick Swayze),
opens at The Dragonfly Rock Club, 6510 Santa Monica Blvd, in Hollywood
(tickets at http://theatermania.com or 866-811-4111).
Point Break LIVE!, created and developed by Jaime Keeling and Jamie Hook,
can best be described as a satirical/absurdist stage adaptation of the
"Extreme Sports" Blockbuster film. This surfing, bank robbing, skydiving,
car chasing, fist fighting, adrenaline packed "action play" extravaganza,
now has an almost cultish following of fanatical fans as a result of some
EXTREME entertainment.
The show -- an amalgam of action, suspense, hilarity and absurdity --
launches with a "screen-test." One lucky (possibly crazy) audience member
is "cast" in the lead role of Johnny Utah (Reeves' character), a former
college football star in search of the adrenaline-junkie guru -- Bodhi
Sattva (Swayze). Thus begins a theatrical whirlwind only grasped when
experienced live -- Point Break LIVE!
Evolving from Seattle to Minneapolis, Point Break LIVE! seriously found its
locomotive legs in New York City in 2007 in a collaboration with Eve Hars
of New Rock Theater Productions who then brought the show to the West Coast
-- a critical move that would lead to a six month sold out run in Downtown
Los Angeles.
Recently however, P.B.L. found itself in the midst of a logistical
shutdown! When the sold out sensation's brakes were suddenly slammed to a
screeching halt by the Los Angeles Fire Department, the producers of Point
Break LIVE! had some serious problem solving to do -- & at point break
speed!
They audaciously turned to The Dragonfly Rock Club -- ideal in every way
for Point Break LIVE!, after disappointed fans rallied rigorously to find
the show an "Awesome" new home -- word soon spread and the rest is
theatrical history! Point Break LIVE! fans were thrilled & the show is now
'shredding the tube' into Hollywood!
