Crown Relocations Partners With Vitamin Angels to Transport Vitamin A to Children in Need Around the World

SANTA BARBARA, CA--(Marketwire - May 30, 2008) - There are many facets to programs designed to provide aid to people in need around the world. Beyond donations of food, products and personal time, the integral and often most taxing part is transporting the product to the individual countries.

Vitamin A deficiency is widespread in many developing countries affecting over 140 million children every year. A shortage of vitamin A causes up to half a million of these children to go blind and also affects their immune system resulting in reduced resistance to disease.

Crown Relocations is one of the most recent companies to join Vitamin Angels in their fight to eradicate childhood blindness caused by vitamin A deficiency with "Operation 20/20." In addition to the donation of the vitamin A and the antiparasitic, a large part of the success of "Operation 20/20" is arranging the logistics to get the product to the children in need.

"Crown Relocations really stepped up in our time of need, going above and beyond donating their services," says Howard Schiffer, founder of Vitamin Angels. "They volunteered countless hours of their personal time to ensure the first shipment of vitamins to the initial 17 countries was completed and distributions were taking place."

The staff at Crown Relocations has been volunteering their time to assist with transportation and logistics. They have helped to reach children through schools and health facilities in the Pacific region, South and Southeast Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, Central and South America.

"The delivery logistics has proven to be one of the greatest challenges for Operation 20/20," says Ken Krzeminski, of Crown Chicago, who has served as the central coordinator for this initiative. "Crown Relocations has been involved in sorting and storing the products, as well as transporting them overseas to children in need around the world."

Vitamin Angels has distributed over 300 million vitamins and other supplements in over 80 countries worldwide. Last year Vitamin Angels reached over 7 million children, nursing moms and babies around the world. To learn more about Vitamin Angels and "Operation 20/20" visit www.VitaminAngels.org.
