Clinton Global Initiative Members Commit to Rebuild Haiti

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - October 1, 2008) - Heeding former President Clinton's request for aid in Haiti following recent natural disasters, William Loiry, President of Equity International, has made a commitment to produce the Haiti Development Resource Bank. This online portal will link the resources of corporations, governments, organizations, and individuals with the reconstruction and development needs of Haiti which President Clinton spoke about during the closing session of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Annual Conference in New York September 26.

Several CGI members have made significant commitments along with Loiry to rebuilding Haiti in light of the recent storms which have destroyed parts of the country, leaving many without a home or supplies needed to live. "There is an immediate need to serve this area with resources which can not only help restore Haiti to pre-hurricane status, but help develop the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere into a safe, sustainable, and livable country," says Loiry. He adds, "Myself and fellow CGI participants believe that Haiti should be rebuilt better than what existed before and hope the efforts and commitments to the area can engage the U.S. and international community to focus on a brighter future for all in a country very near us."

Loiry hosted the first Katrina reconstruction summits after the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and developed the Gulf Coast Reconstruction Portal to facilitate effective short-term and long-term hurricane economic reconstruction throughout the Gulf Coast by bringing together business, government, relief, and emergency management leaders. He will build upon the success of this portal to provide swift aid to the Haitian community. Loiry's commitment to Hurricane Katrina was honored when he was invited by President Clinton to be an inaugural member of the Clinton Global Initiative in 2005. In addition to his current CGI commitment to aid Haiti, he has also made a broad commitment to a sustainable future through his online community, the Clean Action Network (www.cleanaction.org). This community brings together world members dedicated to living an eco-friendly life and striving for renewable energy.
