WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - November 5, 2008) - NeighborWorks America recently launched a
new website
(www.nw.org/green) designed to help the housing and community development
industry create "greener" and healthier housing and communities. The launch
follows the corporation's successful "Go Green Now" symposium held earlier
this year in Atlanta.
"This is an exciting time for the non-profit community development
community and its efforts to create healthier, sustainable and affordable
housing," said Thomas P. Deyo, Senior Advisor Green Strategies and Gulf
Rebuilding at NeighborWorks America. "The redesigned website contains
important information that will help housing developers choose the products
and processes to improve the environmental quality of housing.
"It also presents examples of various green efforts being undertaken in the
field for building homes, improving business operations, and undertaking
green community projects. Importantly, the site also includes links to the
latest education and training courses available for professionals who want
to learn how to make major changes in the way they build and manager
housing," said Deyo.
NeighborWorks America offers a three week Green and Healthy Homes
Specialist certification. The nine courses are available from the
NeighborWorks Training Institute, with the next opportunity to take a
required course occurring at the December NeighborWorks Training Institute
to be held December 8-12 in Washington, DC.
NeighborWorks America offers a total of sixteen green building and related
courses, including courses in how to "green" multifamily housing to how
to "green" an organization. New courses are being rolled out at this
institute in Green Building Science and Green Housing Rehabilitation.
