Acresso Announces FLEXnet Embedded for Licensing High-Tech Devices

Industry-Leading Licensing Toolkit for Extremely Small Footprint Devices Delivers Platform and Product Flexibility

SCHAUMBURG, IL--(Marketwire - November 12, 2008) - Acresso Software today announced the availability of FLEXnet Embedded, part of FLEXnet Suite for High-Tech Device Manufacturers. This offering extends Acresso's entitlement and compliance management capabilities to a wide range of small footprint devices. FLEXnet Embedded enables device manufacturers to configure capability and capacity on their products by managing the licensing of embedded software. This gives manufacturers the agility to deliver new products to market quickly and to reduce operational costs by standardizing on fewer device models.

FLEXnet Embedded builds on Acresso's deep experience in license management to provide device manufacturers the ability to modify product configurations, simplify field upgrades, and enable trials of new capabilities. Licensing embedded software also becomes a critical enabler for new business models where a product's usage may vary. Current Acresso customers driving additional revenue in these ways are found in multiple markets, including telecom, medical devices, test & measurement, and industrial automation. The addition of FLEXnet Embedded to the solution significantly broadens the opportunity in these markets.

"There is no question licensing is becoming a much larger issue for device manufactures, as embedded systems play a greater role in the overall value chain. The benefits of a strong licensing posture are obvious both in meeting market demands for product differentiation and for reducing the burden of managing several device platforms," said Michael Fauscette, Group Vice President, Software Business Solutions at IDC.

Increasingly, platforms must remain standard to be cost-effective. A more intelligent device with the ability to repair or update remotely is also a key driver for better supply chain management. Siemens Building Technologies, a FLEXnet Suite customer and a leader in HVAC, Electronic Safely and Security, believes licensing has allowed the company to simplify its supply chain and reduce the number of its product models from hundreds of SKUs to just a few key platforms.

"Today's challenging economy has had a big impact on the construction industry, which directly affects us," said Duane Keenan, Manager, Integrated Solutions at Siemens Building Technologies. "By recognizing the value of license management early within our overall product development process we are able to better serve our customers. Acresso has helped Siemens Building Technologies to reduce the manufacturing complexity of a very sophisticated product line down to just a few models."

"FLEXnet Embedded is designed specifically with high-tech device manufacturers in mind," said Roger Bottum, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Acresso Software. "This new product builds on Acresso's long-standing history of providing licensing technology and entitlement management solutions. This now extends the capabilities to a much broader range of devices including those running embedded operating systems such as Windows CE and Embedded Linux."

Part of the FLEXnet Suite for High-Tech Device Manufacturers, FLEXnet Embedded leverages Acresso's 25 years of industry experience helping software producers and high-tech device manufacturers and their customers maximize revenue, cut costs, and eliminate manual processes. Acresso's FLEXnet software licensing and InstallShield installation technology are considered industry standards, deployed by over 71,000 customers on more than 500 million desktops worldwide.
