Dr. Horacio E. Oduber Hospital Selects Cerner to Provide a Suite of Cerner Millennium Solutions

Hospital is Cerner's First Client in Aruba

KANSAS CITY, Mo. and ORANJESTAD, Aruba, Nov. 13, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dr. Horacio E. Oduber Hospital (HOH), Aruba's only hospital, will implement a suite of Cerner Millennium(r) healthcare information technology (HIT) solutions. The Cerner solutions will replace existing HIT products for multiple areas of the hospital. This implementation is part of the hospital leadership's vision to have a unified electronic medical record for all areas of the hospital.

"Dr. Horacio E. Oduber Hospital chose Cerner because of Cerner's proven expertise in delivering innovative healthcare technology solutions around the world," said Dr. Arnold Booesten, medical director at Dr. Horacio E. Oduber Hospital. "By implementing Cerner Millennium solutions, we will be able to improve the quality of care we provide to patients and create a hospital-wide electronic medical record."

Cerner's ability to deliver solutions in multiple care settings on a single, unified architecture, was a key factor in hospital leadership's decision. Cerner's commitment to research and development, as evidenced by its $1.75 billion cumulative investment to develop a contemporary, scalable HIT architecture, and its global expertise, with clients in more than 20 countries, were also important factors for HOH leadership.

Beginning in March 2009, Cerner Millennium solutions will be used to automate emergency department triage and tracking, registration and scheduling tasks, radiology processes, and billing and accounts receivable procedures at HOH. These solutions operate on the Cerner Millennium architecture, a unified HIT computing platform that helps health professionals elevate safety, quality and efficiency. The hospital also will be using Cerner's remote hosting services to store and manage data.

HOH will use the Cerner Bedrock system to implement and maintain its Millennium solutions. The Bedrock system uses data gathered from lessons learned at thousands of Cerner Millennium solution implementations to simplify and expedite the design and build process. The Bedrock solution allows users who may not be familiar with the technical aspects of building a clinical database to navigate each step and effectively build and maintain a Cerner Millennium system.

"Cerner and the leadership at Dr. Horacio E. Oduber Hospital share a joint mission to provide the people of Aruba with world-class healthcare through the use of healthcare information technology," said Trace Devanny, Cerner president. "We are proud to help HOH automate processes and work toward the implementation of a unified electronic medical record."

Cerner technology helps healthcare organizations around the world streamline operations and improve the quality of care they deliver to patients. To learn more about Cerner, visit www.cerner.com/la.
