Newforma(R) Announces Release of Newforma(R) Project Center Sixth Edition
Enhancements to Leading PIM Software Deliver Streamlined Workflow for Major IPD Processes
| Source: Newforma, Inc.
MANCHESTER, NH--(Marketwire - January 27, 2009) - Newforma® Inc., a software company
addressing the project information management (PIM) needs of the design and
building industry, today announced that, as a result of a successful
completion of an early release program with nine Newforma customers, Newforma
Project Center Sixth Edition will become generally available in
mid-February, 2009. Sixth Edition advances Newforma's support for the
multi-step, multi-party, highly interactive and highly involved processes
of Integrated Project Delivery (IPD). In particular, Sixth Edition now
supports the complex process of LEED certification administration and the
emerging digital workflows required for BIM-based design. In addition,
Sixth Edition incorporates over 60 requests for enhancements from Newforma
customers. A complete description of all the new and expanded functionality
in Newforma Project Center Sixth Edition can be found at newformant.com, the Newforma user
community site.
Affiliated Engineers, Inc., a
mechanical, electrical and piping/plumbing engineering firm employing 700
in 10 offices across the United States, was one of the Newforma customers
participating in the early release program. "We have been eagerly
anticipating the improved functionality delivered in Sixth Edition, and it
has exceeded our expectations on all counts," said Project Engineer and
Newforma Administrator Matt Tosto. "Sixth Edition has proven to be faster
and includes even more useful features than previous versions, and
Newforma's attention to providing the feature enhancements that their
customers have requested is second to none. Thanks to Newforma's excellent
service and support team, we were able to complete the upgrade in a
production environment without a hitch, and the entire upgrade process was
a happy non-event for us all."
"The early release program is a critical component of Newforma's commitment
to delivering high quality product releases that ensure business continuity
for all our customers," said Newforma Chief Executive Officer Ian Howell.
"While there is a lot of pre-release planning, preparation, and extensive
product acceptance testing on the part of our engineering, services, QA and
support teams, we also depend on early participation from customers to
validate each release in a live production environment. We'd like to thank
our Sixth Edition early release program participants Architectural Design
Consultants, Inc.; AEI; BNIM Architects; Bruner/Cott & Associates; DiMella
Shaffer; HHCP; LMN Architects; Moseley Architects; and SOM."
Project Information Management (PIM) for IPD processes -- LEED and BIM
The pursuit of sustainable design, a key objective of IPD, has encouraged
increasing numbers of design firms to pursue LEED certification for their
projects, but the administration of LEED can add a substantial workflow
burden if not supported by project information management (PIM) systems to
automate the additional tasks. The new and enhanced functionality in Sixth
Edition places Newforma's PIM solution in an even stronger position to
support the documentation-intensive work processes of LEED administration
and certification, including the logging and tracking involved in materials
certification, local product sourcing and post-completion commissioning.
Similarly, the work processes emerging as a result of BIM-based design
increasingly demand PIM software to manage the flow of information around
and between the various models of a project. Just as BIM tools facilitate
the representation of design changes, PIM software makes it easy to capture
and document decision trails and related information around design changes.
Towards that goal, Newforma Project Center Sixth Edition users can now
view, search and track all markups, irrespective of whether they were
created in Adobe, Bluebeam or Autodesk Design Review, and can associate
those markups with the project, the model file, the record copies of model
views, the email discussions related to the markups, and any action items
that are required as a result of the modifications suggested.
Long-standing Newforma customer BNIM Architects is looking forward to
applying Newforma's expanded PIM capabilities to more advanced work
processes in the firm. "In 2006, we took the first step by deploying
Newforma to manage our project email and take the headaches out of large
file transfers. However, we invested in the solution based on the
longer-term promise of streamlined work flow for more advanced work, such
as contract administration," said BNIM Architects Chief Operating Officer
Dev Malik. "We're now using Newforma actively for submittals management,
and we look forward to immediately applying Sixth Edition to the more
advanced workflow around BIM and LEED certification."
