Universal Detection Technology Received Purchase Order for Bioterrorism Detection Equipment and Training Kits From the Miami-Dade Police Department

LOS ANGELES, March 13, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Universal Detection Technology (www.udetection.com) (OTCBB:UNDT), a developer of early-warning monitoring technologies to protect people from bioterrorism and other infectious health threats and provider of counter-terrorism consulting and training services, reported today that it has received a purchase order for its five-agent bioterrorism detection Equipment from the Miami-Dade Police Department. The Equipment is capable of spot detection of anthrax, ricin toxin, botulinum toxin, plague, and SEBs. The purchase order also includes kits that mimic a "suspicious powder" scenario thus preparing the first responders for a real world event.

The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) is the largest police department in the Southeastern United States, with approximately 4,500 employees. The MDPD has a dedicated anti-terror unit with officers specializing in biological and chemical warfare detection methods.

UNDT's 5-agent detection equipment has been extensively used by first responders and private industry throughout the country. The equipment has been evaluated by the U.S. DOD as well as the United Kingdom military. The equipment's capacities include:

 * No cross-reactivity with near neighbor strains
 * No cross-reactivity to household powders
 * No set up time
 * No expensive reader needed
 * No decontamination requirements
 * No false positives
 * No false negatives
 * No hook effect

"This is the second order for our equipment from a major metropolitan first responder agency in the last few months," said Mr. Jacques Tizabi, UNDT's Chief Executive Officer. "We will continue to expand the marketing of our detection equipment in the coming year," he added.
