Walmart Salutes Schools Through "Earth Day, Every Day" School Challenge

Winning School to Receive $20,000 Grant to Enhance Earth-Friendly Practices


BENTONVILLE, AR--(Marketwire - April 3, 2009) - In celebration of Earth Day, Walmart is announcing the "Earth Day, Every Day" School Challenge, a program to recognize schools and student bodies across the nation that are taking active strides to create a greener, healthier planet.

Contest details are as follows:

-- Between April 3-May 1, 2009 entrants can submit a 200-word essay on behalf of the nominated school showcasing the school's earth-friendly activities at www.earthdayeverydaychallenge.com

-- All entrants must be at least 18 years of age and be affiliated with the nominated school (e.g. school officials, teachers, parents)

-- The top 20 finalists will be selected by independent judges and receive a $500 Walmart gift card to assist with earth-friendly activities

-- All finalists will be invited to compete for the grand prize: a $20,000 grant from Walmart, to be used toward the continuation or implementation of earth-friendly projects and activities

-- To compete for the $20,000 grant, the finalists will be invited to create a short video showcasing the earth-friendly initiatives described in the essay

-- Between June 8-June 19, 2009, people across the country will be invited to evaluate each qualifying essay and video in order to cast a vote to determine the grand prize winner
