Donald Zink, Ph.D., U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, to Deliver Keynote Address at Food Safety Summit

Why Are We Having More Foodborne Disease Outbreaks and Recalls?


WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - April 21, 2009) - The Food Safety Summit, taking place April 27-29 in Washington DC, announced today that Dr. Donald Zink, Senior Science Advisor, Office of the Center, CFSAN/FDA, US Department of Health and Human Services, will be a keynote speaker at next week's event. Dr. Zink will discuss the current outbreak of foodborne disease and recalls on Wednesday, April 29.

Dr. Zink joined Campbell Soup Company in 1983 as Manager of Process Microbiology where he worked in the area of refrigerated food safety. In 1990, he joined Nestlé, where he worked in Quality Assurance for the Carnation Company and served as Director of Food Safety for Nestlé USA. In 2002, he joined the U.S. Food & Drug Administration's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition and recently assumed the duties of Senior Science Advisor for CFSAN in the Office of the Center Director.

Dr. Zink will join Michael S. Kaufman of the National Restaurant Association and David Theno, PhD, of JACK-in-the-BOX, Inc. (retired) as the keynote speakers for the event. The Summit kicks off with four workshops focused on "New and Innovative Technologies for Food Safety," "The Three Pillars of a Successful Food Liability Program," "Quantifying and Communicating the Business Risks of Food Safety, Food Fraud, and Food Defense," and "A Reintroduction to HACCP." On Monday evening, the NSF will present the 2009 Food Safety Leadership Awards and on Tuesday, DuPont Qualicon and Food Quality Magazine will present the 2009 Food Quality Award.
