NetApp Improves Data Processing Capabilities for Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency
| Source: NetApp, Inc.
SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - June 2, 2009) - NetApp (NASDAQ : NTAP ) today announced that
the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has improved the performance
of its scientific satellite data processing system with the recent
deployment of a NetApp® FAS6080 storage system. The NetApp FAS6080, which
stores and processes 830TB of data that is received by satellite, has
enabled JAXA to double its I/O throughput and increase performance when
compared to its previous storage system.
The data obtained from the satellite is processed by the JAXA computer
system and transformed into various images and videos. JAXA then stores
this data for several years and conducts research and analysis on it over
time. While used internally, this data is also leveraged by several outside
agencies, including the National Astronomical Observatory. The NetApp
FAS6080 enables JAXA to transfer this data to external agencies in both an
efficient and reliable manner while seamlessly handling the resulting
workloads for improved performance.
In the future, JAXA has plans to leverage new satellites in order to obtain
additional forms of data. As a result, JAXA will continue to work with
NetApp to increase its storage system capacity to meet the growing demands.
