DETROIT, June 15, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Marygrove College is offering a new program for Fall 2009, that will prepare students to become Pharmacy Technicians. Students who complete the program and pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam, will be qualified to work in pharmacies across Michigan as licensed Pharmacy Technicians.

"Employment of Pharmacy Technicians is expected to increase by 32 percent from 2006-2016,* which is must faster than the average for all occupations," said Dr. Sally Welch, co-chair, Science and Mathematics Department, Marygrove College. "Within one year, students can complete the training needed to begin careers in this in-demand profession. This is especially important for displaced workers who need to quickly retrain themselves."

Marygrove College is hosting an Information Night on Thursday, June 18 from 5-7 p.m. in the Madame Cadillac Building on the college's campus. This event is free and open to the public. No RSVP is necessary.

 * Pharmacy Technicians will be on hand to share information about
what it is like to work in this field.
 * Faculty will be available to discuss curriculum content and
   course scheduling.
 * Marygrove staff will assist individuals with the application and
admissions processes, and financial aid planning.

Financial aid is available

Marygrove College's Make the Grade and Transfer Advantage financial aid programs-which guarantee qualified high-need students can meet tuition costs without student loans-have been extended to include students in this new program. In addition, the program qualifies for the State of Michigan's No Worker Left Behind program, which is targeted to dislocated workers (people who are laid off) and/or students from low income families. The program provides up to $5,000 per year in grant aid (money that does not need to be repaid) for up to two years to students who have financial need left after other forms of financial aid have been exhausted.
