Free Outdoor Summer Concert Series Scheduled in West Dearborn

Variety of Musical Artists and Groups to Perform


DEARBORN, MI--(Marketwire - July 7, 2009) - Local residents, businesses and visitors to Dearborn are encouraged to reserve Friday evenings to attend a free outdoor mini-concert series sponsored by the West Dearborn Downtown Development Authority (WDDDA).

The first concert, featuring Carl Cafanga & Friends, will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2009 in Michigan Avenue's "Pocket Park," located between Mason and Monroe Avenues in west Dearborn.

Carl Cafanga is one of metro Detroit's most in-demand saxophonists. His quartet plays soulful, smooth jazz and will feature Ashaki, a female vocalist, jazz artist and native Detroiter who has performed nationally and in Japan.

Four additional concerts will be held in the Muirhead Plaza adjacent to the Bryant Library on Michigan Avenue, featuring the versatile cover band Radio Active from 6 to 9 p.m. on July 24; Motor City music veterans Merge, performing musical hits from the 1950s to contemporary, from 6 to 9 p.m. on August 14; Cleary Quartet from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on August 21; and Thornetta Davis, recognized for her exceptional blues vocal performances, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on August 28, 2009.

The WDDDA recommends that concert-goers bring chairs and blankets for outdoor seating while they relax and enjoy the music.
