FineLine Prototyping Realizes Substantial Savings and Increased Productivity With NexentaStor 2.0

Revolutionary Open Storage Solution Provides Leading Rapid Prototyping Firm With Shared Windows and Linux File Access and Improved Data Protection

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwire - July 26, 2009) - Nexenta Systems, Inc., the leading provider of hardware independent NAS and SAN solutions, has freed another customer from the shackles of proprietary enterprise storage. FineLine Prototyping, a leading provider of rapid prototyping services, has deployed NexentaStor to speed customized prototyping solutions to its customers.

FineLine produces three-dimensional models based on customers' CAD files for US-based manufacturing and consumer products companies.

Craig Goff, Vice President of Operations of FineLine, said: "We are extremely happy with the combination of enterprise capabilities and openness that NexentaStor provides us. NexentaStor allows us to easily share file access across Linux and Windows users. The integration between our Linux LDAP access control lists and our Windows AD control lists is working flawlessly and the result is increased productivity for our end users as well as our IT support team. Plus we know our data is safe thanks to the use of NexentaStor's easy to use and reliable snapshot based replication and end to end checksum and RAID capabilities. Also, the management of storage for our VMware environment is another huge time saver. The last point I'd make is the savings, which are substantial."

Specific ways that FineLine is using NexentaStor include:

-- VMware storage: VMware storage for FineLine is provided by
NexentaStor via the high performance NFS storage included with NexentaStor
and with the assistance of the VM Data Center optional module.

-- Shared Windows and Linux file access: As an enterprise class NAS,
NexentaStor enables the sharing of files between Windows and Linux users
and facilitates the administration of user access through LDAP and Active
    Directory integration.

-- Hourly snapshots and nightly back-ups: NexentaStor includes a number
of snapshot and continuous replication capabilities, all of which are fully
managed, reliable processes that can be used for local or for distributed
replication. Unlike legacy storage solutions there is no practical limit
on the number of snapshots that can be performed. FineLine Prototyping uses
NexentaStor's auto-sync for local snapshots to ensure against data loss
resulting from hardware failure or from user error.

-- PostgreSQL database store: The high performance NFS capabilities of
NexentaStor are used by FineLine for their PostgreSQL databases.

Another benefit that FineLine Prototyping has experienced is seamless and cost free hardware upgrades. Proprietary storage vendors require that customers purchase all hardware from the storage vendor, even though the underlying hardware is not made by the storage vendor and in many cases is not even touched by these vendors. These legacy storage vendors are dependent upon this 'hardware tax' for the vast majority of their revenues. FineLine Prototyping is an example of a NexentaStor customer who has been able to upgrade their storage hardware just as they do their other servers and thereby has accelerated the performance of NexentaStor. As Nexenta only sells software, there was no payment necessary to Nexenta when this hardware upgrade was performed.

FineLine Prototyping recently upgraded to NexentaStor 2.0 at no additional cost as an existing Nexenta customer.
