HomeGrid Forum Welcomes CopperGate to Its Board of Directors

BEAVERTON, OR--(Marketwire - July 27, 2009) - HomeGrid Forum, a global, non-profit trade group promoting the United Nations' International Telecommunication Union's (ITU-T) G.hn standardization efforts, today announced that CopperGate Communications is joining its Board of Directors. CopperGate joins Best Buy, BT, Infineon, Intel, Panasonic, and Sigma Designs in leading the HomeGrid Forum and promoting G.hn, the leading global standard for wired home network.

"CopperGate has been involved in the G.hn working group since its inception. Their decision to join our Board of Directors is a resounding vote of support for HomeGrid and its certification plans for this key standard in wired home networking," said Matthew Theall, president of HomeGrid Forum. "CopperGate is a leader in wired home networking chipsets. With more than 40 service providers using their chipsets today, CopperGate's involvement in HomeGrid and its commitment to the G.hn standard will reinforce the decision many large service providers have made to standardize on G.hn."

The G.hn standard delivers a single unified technology for the wired home network addressing the key issues of service providers, electronics manufacturers, and consumers alike. Through one worldwide standard, G.hn unifies the networking of content and devices over any wire -- coax cable, phone and power lines. G.hn enables service providers to deploy new offerings, including IPTV, more cost effectively, allows consumer electronics devices to talk to each other, across any media, enables home automation and security products throughout the house, and greatly simplifies consumer purchasing and installation processes.

"G.hn is the industry's best hope for a unified wireline standard," said Michael Weissman, vice president marketing, North America for CopperGate and HomeGrid Forum board member. "It delivers the best performance over each medium: powerlines, coaxial cable, and phone lines, and can be integrated into a low-cost chipset that is backed by a global standards organization. We look forward to working with our Board partners to ensure the industry finally delivers the unified, integrated global standard solution that service providers and consumers are craving."

CopperGate is part of a growing list of industry-leading organizations that are part of HomeGrid Forum. Global leaders in the service provider, computing, and consumer electronics industries also support the adoption of G.hn through their participation in the ITU-T.
