BALTIMORE, MD--(Marketwire - July 27, 2009) - Miles & Stockbridge P.C.
announced today that David B. Eberhardt, former executive vice president
and general counsel of U.S. Foodservice, Inc.,
has rejoined the firm's corporate practice group as a principal in its Baltimore
office.
Mr. Eberhardt led the legal and risk management functions at U.S.
Foodservice and managed a department of almost 50 employees, including 14
lawyers. He also was a member of, and advisor to, the executive leadership
team.
While with U.S. Foodservice, Mr. Eberhardt was a key participant in the
company's mergers & acquisitions strategy, through which the company
completed more than 20 transactions with aggregate purchase/sales proceeds
exceeding $15 billion, including four of the five largest transactions in
foodservice distribution history.
"In addition to David's outstanding technical skills as a lawyer and broad
counseling experience, he has a business person's understanding of the
distribution industry," said John B. Frisch, chairman and CEO of Miles &
Stockbridge P.C. "Adding his talents to an area of focus for our firm
allows us to take a leap forward in our ability to serve distribution
clients."
"In the 11 years as an in-house lawyer, I developed a clear perspective on
what makes a law firm a great partner to a client," said Eberhardt. "I know
firsthand that Miles & Stockbridge shares my vision and delivers against
that vision every day. I know the firm well, the quality of its people and
its work, both from time with the firm and as a client. I am very pleased
to rejoin the firm and look forward to collaborating with my colleagues to
meet our clients' needs and exceed their expectations."
Prior to joining U.S. Foodservice, Mr. Eberhardt was a principal in the
firm's Columbia office. He started as a law clerk in 1984, became an
associate in 1985 and principal in 1992.
U.S. Foodservice is the nation's second largest foodservice distributor,
with annual sales approaching $20 billion, approximately 70 distribution
facilities and 26,000 employees. During Mr. Eberhardt's tenure, the company
was an independent public company, an operating subsidiary of a foreign
public company and an independent company owned by private equity firms.
Miles & Stockbridge P.C. has
approximately 200 lawyers practicing in nine offices within the
mid-Atlantic region, representing businesses from national and global
companies to local and emerging businesses, within manufacturing and
distribution, real estate, finance and life sciences industries.
