Western Pennsylvania's Allegheny County Selects Envista to Coordinate Public Works and Utility Projects

Web-Based Solution Offers Cost-Saving Efficiencies On Infrastructure Work

BEVERLY, Mass., Sept. 9, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Envista Corporation, a provider of web-based software for infrastructure project coordination, today announced Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, is deploying Envista's map-driven application. Allegheny County will use the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) to coordinate hundreds of roadway and utility construction and maintenance projects to be performed in public right of way. The Allegheny County Department of Public Works manages 810 lane miles of roadway, 520 bridges, and 12,000 acres of parkland and related facilities.

Joseph A. Olczak, Allegheny County Director of Public Works, says "Our selection of Envista is timely because it meets the requirements of the County's utility coordination initiative and ordinance to use a web-based solution and provide a single reference for all projects planned in rights-of-way." Olczak continues, "We're pleased that Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania is the first major utility company serving our area that will coordinate with Allegheny County using this innovative technology." In March 2009, Envista Corporation announced that Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania will use Envista technology to manage its 20-year gas pipeline replacement program.

Envista will enable coordination amongst the county departments, municipalities, and utility companies to optimize the construction planning process, reduce street cuts, save on paving costs, and lessen the impact on neighborhoods and commuters during the paving and construction season. More Western Pennsylvania counties, municipalities, and utilities are expected to adopt Envista in the near term to take advantage of the project planning information.
