Rovi's Media Networking Solution Enables CE Devices to Play Content From Windows 7

Onkyo Unveils New Rovi Powered Home Theater Systems Compatible With Windows 7; New Devices Streamline the Discovery of Entertainment Content in the Home

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 6, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Rovi Corporation (Nasdaq:ROVI) today announced that consumers using devices built with the latest edition of Rovi's Connected Platform media networking software will be able to find, play and share content (such as movies, TV shows, music and photos) stored on Windows(R) 7-based PCs.

Slated for launch on October 22, Windows Media Center, which is provided with Windows 7, will give consumers the ability to seamlessly connect their computing world to their digital entertainment environment. As a Windows 7 'Play To' ready solution, Rovi's Connected Platform enables consumer electronics (CE) manufacturers to quickly embed networking capabilities in various devices to play entertainment content from Windows Media Center, as well as other DLNA- and UPnP-compliant devices.

In addition, Onkyo Corporation, in joint development with Rovi, eSOL and Texas Instruments (TI), has announced the retail availability of Connected Platform-enabled audio/video receivers (AVR), TX-NA1007 and TXNA5007, which are also Windows 7 Play To-certified. These two devices join Onkyo's previously released networked AVR products, TX-NAB807 and TX-NR807, which are also powered by Rovi's Connected Platform solution.

"Our TX series is designed for the wide spectrum of consumers who are looking for a high-quality product to use in their home theaters," said Mr. Nobuaki Okuda, executive officer of Business Development Division, Onkyo. "We are continuing to innovate to remain on top of the digital home revolution and we're excited for our product ship with Windows 7 compatibility and Rovi's Connected Platform together."

"We're working closely with our customers and other technology leaders, such as Onkyo, Microsoft, eSOL and TI to help them quickly bring products to market for the digital home," said Akitaka Nishimura, senior vice president of Asia Pacific at Rovi Corporation. "Consumers are waiting for these high-caliber connected products and we are helping our customers fulfill this need as soon as possible."
