ACWA Presents Emissary Award to Randy Fiorini

Award Recognizes Former ACWA President for Invaluable Service to Association

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - December 2, 2009) - The Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) today presented its third annual Emissary Award to Randy Fiorini, a former ACWA president with more than a decade of service to the association. The award recognizes individuals for remarkable contributions to California water by supporting and advancing ACWA's goals.

"ACWA's Emissary Award is our way of paying tribute to the members who have guided this association and contributed to our successes over the years," ACWA President Glen Peterson said. "Randy Fiorini is a prime example of a member whose involvement has made a tremendous difference. We owe a debt of gratitude to Randy for his years of leadership and his unwavering support for ACWA and its statewide interests."

Fiorini, a third-generation farmer and vice president of Turlock Irrigation District, served as ACWA's president from 2006-2007. When the effects of ALS made it difficult for former Executive Director Steve Hall to make public appearances on behalf of ACWA in 2007, Fiorini stepped up to fill the role. He accompanied Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger at a series of events throughout the state to promote a comprehensive water package, and made numerous other appearances on ACWA's behalf. He also became a visible and vocal champion for ACWA's "The Time Is Now" campaign, which called for an immediate and comprehensive solution to the state's water problems. He also chaired the association's task force on Delta Vision and led the year-long effort to develop "No Time to Waste: A Blueprint for California Water," ACWA's landmark policy document, in 2005.

During his tenure with ACWA, Fiorini served as vice chair and chair of ACWA Region 4; chair of the Federal Affairs Committee; and vice president and immediate past president of the ACWA Board of Directors. Fiorini completes his service to ACWA at the end of this year.

ACWA is a statewide association of public agencies whose 450 members are responsible for about 90% of the water delivered in California. For more information, visit www.acwa.com.
