EHE International Supports American Cancer Society Mammogram Screening Guidelines

NEW YORK, Dec. 2, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The nation's oldest and largest specialty provider of physical exams and preventive care management announced today that it will continue screening mammograms for women 40+ years old and in women under 40 with presentation of clinical and/or history indications. EHE's recommendations are aligned with the recommendations of the American Cancer Society; that being, annual mammograms and clinical breast assessments for women ages 40+ and continued for as long as they are in good health.

"The independent Medical Advisory Board of EHE International continually reviews all preventive medicine guidelines and applies those guidelines, our Board's expertise, patients' experiences, and our multi-year data set outcomes for establishment of clinical protocols," said Deborah McKeever, the Company's president. "Our exam protocols are unique in that there are no clinical care barriers that prohibit physicians in conducting screening tests for patients who present physical indications or personal or family health risks and history that require the need for more, or less, aggressive screening modalities outside of 'standard recommendations'."

"No screening test is intended to be a 'one size fits all'," said Dr. Susan Spears, EHE's executive vice president of medical affairs. "The U.S. Preventive Task Force is not suggesting that mammograms in women 40-49 years old do not find cancers, but rather they do not find a sufficient number of cancers to warrant screenings in this age group at-large. Mammograms are imperfect but remain the best early detection modality available today. One missed cancer is one too many. EHE International is committed to protecting women's health in a prudent and responsible manner as it has done so for nearly 100 years for its tens of thousands of patients."

Since 1913, EHE International has specialized in the early detection of life-threatening disease through annual physical exams. Its patient-centered approach to care management is recognized as the Gold Standard in preventive health management by clinical professionals and patients, alike.
