About the Author

Eugene C. Di Cerbo was the Chief U.S. Probation Officer for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania for seventeen years and retired December 31, 1974. During his career, he was the recipient of a national award for outstanding contributions to the Federal Probation System. Past President of the Pennsylvania Association on Probation, Parole and Corrections, he was appointed to the Advisory Council of Pennsylvania Governor's Justice Commission. Other citations include (present tense) The Police Chiefs Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania Award of Merit and The Quarter Sessions Court of Philadelphia County Certificate of Merit.

Di Cerbo lived his teenage years during the Great Depression. Being over ninety years old, the author has a rare perspective on American history.
