Saint Peter's University Hospital Deploys the Bernoulli Remote Surveillance System Throughout Critical Care Areas

System Provides Enhanced Patient Safety for Ventilated Patients in Neonatal, Pediatric, and Adult Intensive Care Units

MILFORD, Conn., Jan. 28, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and Cardiopulmonary Corp. (CPC), the developer of central surveillance solutions, jointly announced today the clinical implementation of Bernoulli® Enterprise for the central surveillance of ventilator patients. As part of the 478-bed teaching hospital’s patient safety program, Bernoulli has been implemented for the central surveillance monitoring of all critical care ventilated patients throughout several care areas, including the neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, the adult critical care unit, and the respiratory nursing unit.

Saint Peter’s University Hospital’s dedication to providing optimum patient care led to the decision to choose Bernoulli as the best solution for patient safety surveillance. Ray Kijowski, manager of Respiratory Therapy at Saint Peter’s, said: “The Bernoulli system allows us to monitor ventilated patients from wherever we are in the hospital, but it offers much more than that. It tells us whether there is a problem with the ventilator or if a patient’s respiratory function is compromised. The system’s open platform will allow us to add other devices, such as intravenous pumps and pulse oximeters, and physicians can check on their patients’ status from their offices.  In addition,” he adds, “Bernoulli has a long history of high-quality rapid response support.”

Regardless of the ventilated patient’s location, Bernoulli provides centralized patient monitoring in each care area and sends remote alarm notifications to wireless communication devices worn by clinicians.  Clinicians receive vital patient data and ventilator alarm details in real time. This allows caregivers to quickly arrive at the patient’s bedside fully prepared to manage the situation.

“Remote ventilator monitoring is a very effective means to manage patients on invasive ventilators. Some alarm conditions can be life threatening such as a ventilator disconnect. This solution improves recognition and response time to a patient’s alarm condition resulting in a safer environment and improved outcomes for patients,” stated Kevin Flynn, EVP of Sales & Marketing.

The Bernoulli solution is capable of monitoring and reporting on a hospital’s entire ventilator fleet as well as other medical and non-medical devices.
