America's Most Disadvantaged School Libraries Need Your Vote

The Top 10 Finalists in Acer and Intel's School Library Technology Makeover Contest Are Depending on the Public to Choose a Winner

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - March 15, 2010) - With more than 70,000 votes submitted and only two weeks remaining, schools across the country are rallying their communities to rock the vote to help them win new technology for their outdated and inefficient libraries.

As finalists for Acer and Intel's School Library Technology Makeover, these schools have held assemblies, passed out flyers, posted tweets, written blogs, and now they are making a final plea for votes.

But like all great battles and with two weeks to go before the voting ends, the race to win a technology makeover from Acer and Intel is far from over.

The top 10 finalists for Acer and Intel's School Library Technology Makeover are:

-- Edward T. Bowser, Sr. Unique School of Excellence -- East Orange, N.J.
-- Early Childhood Education Center -- Clark County School District --
    Athens, Ga.
-- Kate Waller Barrett Elementary School -- Arlington, Va.
-- Mesa Vista Middle and High School -- Ojo Caliente, N.M.
-- Neosho Heights Elementary School -- Oswego, Kan.

-- Richard B. Russell Middle School -- Winder, Ga.
-- Theodore Roosevelt Educational Campus -- Bronx, N.Y.
-- Thomas Middle School -- Holdenville, Okla.

"The enthusiasm from the local communities for these schools is amazing," said Richard Black, director of marketing for Acer America Corporation. "With more than 70,000 votes submitted, this contest is bringing attention to the need for students to have access to the latest technology in order to succeed in their studies."

The Countdown Begins

From now through March 31, 2010, the public can cast their votes for a deserving school at http://professional.us.acer.com/edu/LibraryMakeover. The school with the most votes will be awarded a grand prize of 10 new Acer Aspire Timeline notebooks and two all-in-one desktop computers, valued at nearly $12,000.

From a field of nearly 1,200 nominations, Acer and Intel selected 10 K-12 schools as finalists. The schools submitted nominations showing outdated and inefficient technology in their libraries. Other schools shared the dramatic impact of severe budget cuts and shortfalls, with no resources for necessary items such as new technology to help students learn.

The stories presented by schools varied, but they all featured the same goal: To help provide students a 21st century education with the necessary technology to prepare them for the future. Now, the ultimate decision on which school will win is in the hands of a public vote.
