SACRAMENTO, CA--(Marketwire - April 1, 2010) - Despite average rain and snowfall, water will be in short supply for some areas of the state this year, the Department of Water Resources announced today. Though recent storms allowed the department to slightly increase projected water deliveries for 2010, the state's top water managers say Californians must use water more efficiently as a normal course of business.
The Save Our Water program has an array of tools and ideas for saving water indoors and outdoors on its Web site, www.saveourh2o.org. From easy tips to free tools such as conservation checklists and a water savings calculator, the site has suggestions that can net real water savings around the house and in the yard this summer. Conservation tips and water information are also available in Spanish on the site.
"It's great to see snow in the Sierra, but water is not plentiful for many areas of the state. We are still facing chronic shortages, and it is imperative for Californians to continue to conserve," said Timothy Quinn, executive director of the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA). "We encourage Californians to visit www.saveourh2o.org and contact their local water agency for ideas and help in reducing water use."
Launched in April 2009, the Save Our Water public education program is a partnership between ACWA and the Department of Water Resources. The program works closely with local water agencies to educate Californians on the need to conserve.
