Seventh Generation Ranks Tops Among America's Best Places to Work By Outside Magazine

Seventh Generation Recognized for Focus on Employee Satisfaction, Environmental Initiatives

BURLINGTON, VT--(Marketwire - April 7, 2010) - Seventh Generation, the nation's leading brand of environmentally responsible household solutions, was named to Outside magazine's third annual "Best Places to Work" list, ranked number nine out of 50 companies.

For the past 22 years, Seventh Generation has fostered a unique working environment focused on transparency, work-life balance and fulfilling and relevant benefits to create an engaging, thoughtful and uniquely desirable work environment.

"An active outside lifestyle is a priority for our community members and our business," said Jeffrey Hollender, co-founder and Chief Inspired Protagonist of Seventh Generation. "If we don't protect and conserve the environment, we won't have anything to enjoy, so this is a widely-shared passion among our company."

Seventh Generation community members enjoy fitness-related reimbursements and benefits, company-provided gym memberships and an on-site fitness room, and often gather to accomplish outdoor goals with mutual support. Outdoor activities enjoyed at Seventh Generation include endurance running; cross-country, back country and Alpine snow skiing and snowboarding; bicycling; outdoor conservation activities in the community; hiking, camping, sailing, and many other lake-centered activities at the company's Lake Champlain headquarters in Burlington, VT.

Outside's "Best Places to Work" list was compiled with the help of the Outdoor Industry Association ( and Best Companies Group ( Participating companies were sent confidential employee-satisfaction surveys and employer-questionnaires to collect information about benefits, compensation, policies, job satisfaction, environmental initiatives, and community outreach programs. All of the results were analyzed by Best Companies Group experts, who selected the 50 companies that strive to enhance their employees' enjoyment of active endeavors, and environmental and social involvement.

"These 50 companies come from a vast array of industries but they're all following the same enlightened path," said Michael Roberts, Executive Editor of Outside. "They're successful businesses in a challenging economy precisely because they support a proper work-life balance. They know that benefits like on-site gyms and fitness classes, reimbursements for ski passes and sports racing fees, and support for community service efforts during work hours make their employees happier and thus more productive."

The full list and related story will be published in the May issue of Outside magazine, available on newsstands April 13, 2010.

Seventh Generation was also honored as a top small business by the Society for Human Resource Management together with The Great Places to Work Institute, Inc. in 2009.
