MIPS Technologies and Its Ecosystem Showcase Innovations at Embedded Systems Conference/Multicore Expo 2010

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 22, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- EMBEDDED SYSTEMS CONFERENCE -- MIPS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital consumer, home networking, wireless, communications and business applications, today announced that MIPS and companies in the MIPS ecosystem will showcase an array of innovative products and technologies based on and integrated with the MIPS® architecture at the upcoming Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley and Multicore Expo 2010. At the conference and exhibition, being held April 26-29 in San Jose, Calif., attendees can see demonstrations of MIPS' cores, tools and related technologies for next-generation embedded platforms and devices.

In its booth number 2410 on the show floor, MIPS Technologies will offer technology demonstrations including:

  • Developing and debugging software for multicore platforms leveraging the multi-threaded, multiprocessing MIPS32® 1004K™ Coherent Processing System (CPS) working with the MIPS Navigator Integrated Component Suite (ICS)
     
  • The unique and powerful Viosoft Arriba Debugger and Event Analyzer running on both Linux and Android platforms—offering unparalleled information and insight for multicore systems
     
  • CriticalBlue's Prism product with new and enhanced support for the MIPS32 architecture that enables software developers to analyze existing software applications and quickly assess the tangible benefits of migrating to MIPS32 multi-threaded and multicore devices
     
  • Debugging software on MIPS Technologies' new microMIPS™ instruction set architecture (ISA) that maintains 98% of MIPS32 performance while reducing code size by 35%, translating to significant silicon cost savings

In its hospitality suite, MIPS will showcase MIPS-Based™ products and technologies including:

  • A compelling demonstration of the next-generation connected home from MIPS, Home Jinni and D2 Technologies: leveraging Android, the companies will show how simple it is to transfer voice calls and video between DLNA-enabled devices including a DTV and VoIP phone
     
  • Android on MIPS products including Automotive and Service Provider Infotainment prototypes using NetLogic Microsystems' high performance ultra low-power Alchemy® processors; the Lemote YeeLoong8089 netbook with browser capability and other applications; and the commercially-available set-top box from Western Mediabridge that combines IPTV, video-on-demand, ThinkFree Office viewer software, web browser, remote control/keyboard interface, 1080p video and more
     
  • NetLogic Microsystems' XLR®/XLS® Multi-Core, Multi-Threaded Processor reference systems targeting high-performance security appliances, telecommunications infrastructure, enterprise networking and storage appliances
     
  • Cavium Networks OCTEON XL NIC4E and NIC10E Intelligent Network Adapters targeting secure network services, compression offload, encryption offload, TCP offload in security, storage and networking appliances with performance scaling up to 14Gbps
     
  • Microchip Technology's 32-bit PIC32 microcontrollers running various software using USB, Ethernet, graphics, touch screens and SD cards; Microchip will also demonstrate its PIC32 MCUs in its own booth on the show floor
     
  • Tensilica's HiFi 2 Audio DSP integrated with MIPS cores for audio subsystems that require flexibility and ultra low-power programmable audio codec support
     
  • Products for the connected home including the Syabas Popcorn Hour system that streams and plays different types of video and digital media from a PC, storage device, network or the Internet directly to a TV or home entertainment system
     
  • Fluffy Spider Technologies' FancyPants product running on a MIPS-Based digital photo frame with rich graphics and multimedia capabilities to customize Android for mobile applications

Other MIPS-Based Products at ESC

MIPS Technologies recently released its new MIPS32 M14K™ core family for microcontrollers and other small footprint embedded applications, and has already signed licensees for the new cores, which are based on the new microMIPS ISA. Leading third party software vendors offering tool and OS support for the M14K core will demonstrate solutions at ESC. This includes CodeSourcery's industry-leading Sourcery G++™ software development environment based on the GNU Toolchain and the Eclipse IDE. Micrium will show its microMIPS port of the µC/OS-II and µC/OS-III RTOS.

Express Logic will demonstrate the ThreadX advanced RTOS running on the multicore/multi-threaded 1004K CPS.

MIPS Technologies and Synopsys (booth #715) collaborate on virtual prototyping solutions for software development, architecture exploration and verification. Many MIPS customers in the consumer space leverage Synopsys' comprehensive suite of tools and models to accelerate and improve their embedded system development and verification.

Executive Presentations and ACE Awards Ceremony

Leading up to the show, MIPS Technologies President and CEO Sandeep Vij will present at the Globalpress Summit Gala Dinner on Sunday, April 25th. Mr. Vij will provide an update on the latest news from MIPS.

During the Multicore Expo, MIPS Technologies' Vice President of Development Tools Rick Leatherman will present on "Debug for Highly Integrated Multicore Designs." The presentation will take place on Tuesday, April 27th at 4:45 p.m. Pacific.

The Android on MIPS Development Team has been named a finalist in TechInsights' EE Times Sixth Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Awards for Design Team of the Year. The ACE Awards ceremony will take place during ESC on Tuesday, April 27th.
