Northland Montessori School Announces Summer Curriculum


SMITHVILLE, MO--(Marketwire - May 3, 2010) -  Smithville Montessori Academy, Inc. II (SMA), which educates children from six weeks through kindergarten, announced its summer curriculum, beginning May 31 to August 13, 2010.

Noel Hundley, co-owner of SMA, said the school planned multiple special events for the summer curriculum. "The activities that we scheduled for the children include sports, theatre, astronomy, culinary arts and more. These educational programs are designed to actively engage the children throughout the local community while enhancing the learning experience at Smithville Montessori Academy," said Hundley.

Summer Curriculum:

May 31 - June 11: Sports Camp
Students will participate in a variety of sporting activities including physical fitness, individual and team sports, and also study famous athletes. Students will enjoy field trips to Fun Run and participate in a Field Day to complete their study. This camp will also kick off the students' weekly trips to the swimming pool. (No school on May 31st due to Memorial Day.)

June 14 - 25: Astronomy Camp
The study of the cosmos will be the focus of this camp. Students will explore constellations, the planets, and the history of space exploration. Bring your blankets, picnic dinners and telescopes to school on the night of the 25th for an evening of stargazing. Field trips will include a trip to Union Station's Science City.

June 28 - July 9: Theatre Camp
Students will explore all aspects of theatre including set design, playwriting and performance. A field trip to Kansas City's Coterie Theater for the performance of "Lucky Duck" will be enjoyed by students of all ages. (No school on July 5th due to Independence Day.)

July 12 - 23: Outdoor Exploration Camp
Students will explore nature and study the science of the outdoors through activities that include solar energy and the interdependence of native plants and animals. Trips will include a variety of nature hikes, fishing expeditions and visits to local nature centers.

July 26 - August 6: Culinary Arts Camp
Students will learn about the culinary arts through food preparation, cooking, meal planning and nutrition. Topics of Study will be supported by visits to local farms and a gathering of families at a local Farmer's Market.

August 9 - 13: Water Exploration Camp
This week will be a fun week of water play and general laid back activities that get students outdoors. The much anticipated "Mud Fight" will close the summer fun on August 13th.
