Spring Creek Capital Corp. announced that it had signed a strategic licensing agreement for an innovative, patented oral spray drug delivery system via the inner lining of the cheek. According to the announcement, it uses a pain free, needle free, and inhalation free delivery system, that can provide better stability and may reduce the side effects seen with certain nasal delivery and inhalation methods.
The announcement also notes that the current market applications for oral spray technology include delivery of insulin for diabetes, a $10.9 billion market in the U.S., and the delivery of calcitonin for osteoporosis, with worldwide sales in excess of $1 billion.
As an example, for Insulin users, this manner of delivery would eliminate the need for shots with invasive needles while avoiding the long-term lung damage observed with other aerosol products that target the lungs for insulin absorption, according to the news release.
