MONTEREY, CA--(Marketwire - May 6, 2010) -  The Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) today presented its 2010 Excellence in Water Leadership Award to Walter J. Bishop, general manager of Contra Costa Water District.

Bishop, who steps down from his post this month after 17 years, was recognized for his significant contributions to California water, including overseeing design and construction of Los Vaqueros Reservoir, participating in key negotiations on Delta policies and founding a center for water and wastewater that has educated dozens of California water leaders.

"This award is ACWA's way of recognizing leadership and contributions that make a lasting difference in California water," ACWA President Paul Kelley said. "Wally Bishop truly embodies the spirit of building a world of difference.
