TIBCO Event-Driven Software Re-Defines "Massive Scale" for Processing Real-Time Business Events

Next-Generation Platform Can Process Billions of Events, Manage Thousands of Complex Rules, and Deploy Globally; TIBCO Working With Intel to Take Advantage of Multi-Core Architectures

LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwire - May 11, 2010) -   TUCON -- Helping fulfill TIBCO's vision for "Enterprise 3.0," TIBCO Software Inc. (NASDAQ: TIBX) unveiled a new software platform for managing business rules and events in real time across disparate technology systems.

The next-generation software -- TIBCO BusinessEvents™ 4.0 -- extends TIBCO's leadership in massively scalable event processing, and helps companies immediately distribute and act on information about meaningful events such as stock trades, flight delays, customer payments, insurance claims, retail sales, weather patterns and plant failures.

"We are able to dramatically increase our response time to Smart Grid City customers, should there be an outage, thanks to the capabilities of TIBCO BusinessEvents," said Randy Huston, Business Technology Executive, Business Systems, Xcel Energy Inc. "Our system employs thousands of complex rules which are applied to massive amounts of data that is being fed into our outage analysis system in real-time from our customers' meters."

TIBCO BusinessEvents 4.0, available now, brings a new level of scalability to re-define what's possible with event processing. The new software can process billions of events and manage thousands of complex rules, with little or no performance degradation. It also brings geographic scale for distributed deployment, so enterprises can manage their business in different ways around the world.

BusinessEvents™ 4.0 also gives users the flexibility to write and edit rules via different methods and interfaces allows enterprises to roll out new business initiatives such as marketing offers. For example, business users can edit rules via a spreadsheet-style environment. Other users might employ BusinessEvents' Event Pattern Language, which makes it easy to manage rules-related sequences such as customer orders followed by fulfillment and shipment within a set period of time. Events can also be edited via flow charts or a Java-like interface.

"Enterprise 3.0 requires the ability to properly manage the right information at the right place in the right time, even as volumes of events are exploding," said TIBCO founder and CEO Vivek Ranadivé. "Massively scalable event management is about speed, flexibility and simplicity, and we're giving all those benefits to our customers far beyond anything our competitors can deliver."

To realize the Enterprise 3.0 vision requires a move away from a traditional disk-based model to an in-memory architecture, which supports processing of massive quantities of events and enables users to respond more quickly to threats and opportunities. TIBCO has enhanced its support for in-memory architectures with its announcement of TIBCO ActiveSpaces™ suite. For organizations to manage events at a massive scale, they must leverage existing IT resources while also implementing faster ways to retrieve and manage data.

TIBCO and Intel Highlight Upcoming Messaging Software
TIBCO is also previewing a new messaging system at TUCON -- TIBCO FTL™ -- designed to help financial traders, government agencies and utilities detect and respond to critical business events. Designed for real-time, high-throughput data distribution for certain industries and applications, TIBCO FTL will usher in the next generation of messaging technology by breaking the microsecond barrier with latency that will no longer be measured in microseconds, but needs to be measured in nanoseconds. The new system will take advantage of the power of the latest Intel® multi-core technology, including today's 64-core systems and future Intel-based systems with 240-plus cores.
